Lost & Found III - Project 2
2016
Cardiff, Wales
Complete
Project 2 of the third iteration of our on-going involvement in the Welsh School of Architecture's Vertical Studio program.
The brief for Project 2 was for a new shopfront to replace an old and dilapidated set of double doors, and an internal fitout to provide a new dual use space; coffee shop seating by day, dance studio by night.
The resultant project is made almost entirely from reclaimed, re-purposed and upcycled materials. The new glazed shopfront dramatically increases the usable natural light and ventilation, while providing a sympathetic composition against the existing coffee house shopfront.
Using mostly used OSB board discarded from an inner city construction site, the dual use interior space has been dramatically lifted from a drab and featureless space, to a warm and unified room, with a variety of different storage space and features.
Project 1 and 2 were run concurrently by all 14 students over 14 days from start to finish. 7 days were spent collecting materials and designing the projects then both were constructed simultaneously over 7 days.
